In November 1966, James E. Longenecker formed Electro Magnetic Products, Inc. The company started as a tool and die shop operating from its current location in Moorestown, NJ.

With the purchase of presses and furnaces, EMP began to stamp laminations, supplying transformer, aerospace equipment and motor manufacturers throughout the country. Over the following years EMP grew and facilities were expanded to accommodate the increase in sales volume. In 1978 the company was acquired by "Yates" then by Square D Company.

In December 1988, the current owners acquired Yates EMP from Square D, and renamed it Electro Magnetic Products, Inc. Today EMP operates from approximately 7,700 square feet of office and 35,000 square feet of factory space at its original Moorestown location.
